Klo-Ee-Lin - Pt 2

A couple of weeks back, Klo-Ee asked me to join her on a day trip to Melaka on Prophet’s birthday. It was a public holiday, so I thought, what the hell.

To my horror though, Vi King ffk (fly aeroplane in Canto) at the very last minute - leaving me to lamp post Klo-Ee and her boyfriend (who goes by a more normal name of Nicholas, as compared to Klo-Ee) for the whole friggin day.

First stop at Melaka was for breakfast. I had baba laksa, or something like that - basically laksa with a whole lot of coconut milk. The highlight of the day for me was the cendol!! Laced with durian, it’s the ultimate Malaysian dessert!

The Melaka trip was basically a eating + photo-snapping outing. So we just walked around the usual tourist spots around Melaka taking pics. Read the rest of this entry »

My First Week at Kone

Well, to set thing’s straight, it’s pronounced as “ko-nee”, not “cone”. I don’t know if I enjoyed my first week here - I mean, this is a nice place and all, but, it’s been a boring week! I can’t really do data migration, without the data right? Hm, my first week at HSBC was pretty much the same - familiarize with this, familiarize with that. Unfortunately for a colleague of mine, she only got to leave office at 8.30 on her first day to work. And boy oh boy, she’s a hottie! But sadly, she drives a Vios and has 5 credit cards. I take the friggin bus and have a yellow and black card labeled “Maybankard”.

Moving along to the other colleagues, well, they’re mostly quite friendly. The department manager is pretty friendly and outgoing and I even had lunch with him on my first day to work. The person I report to however, is not the department manager. Don’t ask me why, I’m just as blur :p

No More Lotus Notes

The coolest thing about Kone? They use Outlook!! Yay!!! No more replication problems, no more “delete from inbox, then delete from all items” nonsense and no more shitty interface. Outlook rocks!! And almost everyone here uses the calendar for scheduling, coz it’s so easy to use! I can recall, hardly anyone uses Lotus Notes’ calendar function back at HSBC. I didn’t even know how to open the damned calendar!

Unfortunately, the location of our office leaves much to be desired. There’s a malay stall at the canteen, and some other malay stalls within walking distance. The staffs refer to that stall as “longkang”, thank’s to it’s beautiful location. It’s an industrial area, so if you park your car there, it’s gonna get dirty really quickly. I’m quite okay with that, just that the 1 hour journey (1 way) will get to me pretty soon.

Quickie: I’m Joining Kone for 3 Months

I’ll be working at Kone Elevators for 3 months, beginning Feb 11, assisting in some data migration project. Yeah, at first I thought it would be some data entry kinda thing. But my boss did point out that even the recruitment company thougth they wanted data entry clerks. It’s data migration, not entry :p

The morning of my interview, I knew I needed to print a copy of my resume. I kept procrastinating, pushing something trivial like that off. Damn, an hour before I need to leave for the interview, power failure. How the hell am I gonna print my resume?! Thankfully, I’m using a laptop and I have a UPS. At that very moment, the RM 210 I paid for the UPS was worth every penny.

Anyway, am gonna have my last paper at TARC on Thursday - friggin’ Drama. After that, it’ll be pretty hectic: finishing up my documentation and packing as much stuff as possible before heading home. Only a 1 week break for me :( But on the bright side, I’ll be an official dSLR owner by March!!

Happy New Year 2008

2007 comes to an end, and I went to kacau Leng Xiang (known to his friends there as Jessie) over at Section 14.

New Year’s Eve at 1Utama

There were some performances at 1Utama, and Leng Xiang got some “VIP” tickets from 1Utama’s royalty program. More pics later - there’s about 300+ to sort through! Anyways, I got a few Happy New Year SMSes, and the most timely of all, was from Kean Keat - ngam ngam 1 minute into 2008!

SMS from Kean Keat

The laziest of all:

SMS from George

Anyway, happy new year y’all, and good luck in the coming exams!

Happiness

One thing I realized, is that successful people are those who can make everyone around them happy. When organizing an event as large as Imagine Day, there are so many parties involved - Microsoft, TARC, lecturers, committees, helpers, participants and students. Each and every one of them have different needs, different priorities and different motivating factors. How do you keep everyone happy? How do you keep yourself happy and motivated? How do you keep your friends happy, as your priorities have shifted?

Keeping everyone happy is like a juggling on a tight rope - it’s a balancing act. More often than not, compromises and sacrifices will have to be made. You just gotta make sure you won’t regret compromising/sacrificing something, as there’s no turning back.
