Lai Kuan’s Convocation

Lai Kuan had here Bachelor’s convocation at Liverpool Cathedral on Monday – the day the tall ships were supposed to set sail! Since no photography was allowed in the cathedral, I decided to go see the tall ships, then come back in time to take a few pictures for her outside the cathedral. Sigh, but the tall ships didn’t set sail together, they went out the river Mersey one by one! So all I got were crap like these:

Tall ships at New Brighton

So after about an hour of boredom at New Brighton, I took the train back to Liverpool Central and headed to the cathedral.

The gown rental was only for a day, so she had to return the gown by 5:30. We had less than an hour to shoot!

Gave the “throwing hat” thing a few tries, and that’s the only decent shot :( She looks more concerned about throwing the hat properly rather than happy about graduating..

LJMU’s convocations are different (read: weird). Graduates are not given scrolls! Nor are their grades mentioned in the ceremony. They just walk up the stage when their name is announced, and shake hands with the VIP. That’s all. Hey, watching tall ships pass by one by one a mile away suddenly doesn’t seem that bad :p

Though it didn’t rain and we had pretty good sunshine, it was bloody windy! She spent so much time adjusting the damned robe and after a while, gave up wearing the hat.

This is one of my favourite pics! She definitely looks on top of the world!! If I darkened the other one (3rd from top), it would look as if she was giving a Harry Potter themed tour :p

So since the weather was pretty nice, we spent some time shooting out front the Cathedral. I was overjoyed when that damned ice cream truck finally drove off. It was bright red, spoiled so many pictures!

I don’t know what happened, but the camera must have mis-focused :p

It was definitely fun to shoot with Lai Kuan, other than the fact that she kept asking me “eh, how to pose? how to pose?!” when I was kinda busy looking for nice angles and compositions.. I was so into it, I forgot to take a picture with her!!
