Who Said Anything Bout Suffering in UK?

Many would think that life as a student in UK sucks, especially when it comes to food. The only thing economical and convenient is spaghetti, with some heated bolognaise or even baked beans.

Funny thing is, my life here seems pretty enjoyable, especially when it comes to food! Yeah, sure enough I have friends who survive on spaghetti, fried rice and sandwhiches, but me and my housemates… we’re living the life.

My first lunch at UK was none other than spaghetti. Of course it wasn’t just some heated bolognaise.. some minced meat, onions, herbs and ta-daa! Oh, and with Eric around, most of our dishes are nicely decorated with lettuce =)

Spaghetti

I also tried frying spaghetti. Well, simple frying with some cili-padi is nice. I also tried frying spaghetti with bolognaise, not too bad I’d say, that is, if you’re not using Tesco’s bolognaise.

I do most of the cooking for dinner. We settle lunch ourselves, and have dinner together. I guess that’s why we’re lucky to enjoy nice meals for dinner. Sometimes they turn out nice, sometimes just okay. But hey, it’s still edible! Here’s stir fried veggie and fried sardines (marinated with curry powder!)

Dinner

Back at home, this is one of my favourite dishes – chicken stew! The chicken was just frozen drumsticks from Iceland. Since I didn’t bother to remove any fats, it tasted absolutely great! Hm, it should even be better with fresh chicken..

So when Lai Kuan came over on Monday, we had Bak Kut Teh! Kevin, one of my housemates brought along a pack of herb/seasoning. With a little instruction from Eric’s mom, we whipped up this delicious bowl of Liverpool Bak Kut Teh!! =P Oh, though the pork was nice, the tofu sucked! Well, that’s what happens when you buy pre-packed stuff..

Bak Kut Teh!

Ahh, what we had for dinner tonight.. ginger, spring onion chicken, by me!! Everyone had praises for this; we had a little “soup” from pre-boiling the chicken, and with the veggie, really felt like a nice home-cooked meal.

Ginger n Spring Onion Chicken

Yeap, the ginger-spring onion tasted really nice, and I liked it a lot myself too. Tasted pretty much like my mom’s! It’s really quite easy to cook this, just pre-boil the chicken and fry as usual.

The only thing about cooking such fantastic meals is the time required. Dinner these days take a good 2-3 hours. It’s better now that I remember to defrost the chicken in the afternoon. Well, curry chicken and minced meat with tofu this Friday.. can’t wait!

p/s: the only other notable dish we had was the minced beef with tofu, have a picture of it, somewhere.. oh, we roasted some chicken once, but it turned out “okay” only, needed more seasoning!

The spring onion chicken was really GREAT!!! It tasted just perfect! I am sorry Jon, but I really can’t help taking the gravy.

Most of our dinners are great, especially when we have time to plan it and cook it. Worry not. We will eat nasi lemak in few weeks time I promise!

    Cheers!

PS: thx for using black theme, it conserves power. seriously.
