Klo-ee-lin - Pt 1
Posted by Jonathan Ng | Filed under Personal
It’s ironic that I always whine about being bored on weekday nights at home, but have hardly updated my blog. So here I about what led to “Klo-ee-lin”.
Well, about 3 weeks ago, I got my Sony A200 dSLR camera!! Unfortunately, I got it on a Sunday, so I didn’t have much of an opportunity to play with my new toy. I ended up camwhoring a bit at home..

I also tested A200’s high ISO performance - it supports up to ISO 3200! I took the picture below of my uncle’s altar - almost in total darkness, except for the candle. ISO 800 produces pictures that are pretty usable and pictures at ISO 1600 are still acceptable. This one’s on ISO 800 - you’d hardly notice any noise on a PC screen, or on a 4R picture. What great timing..

About 2 months after finishing my last semester at TARC, 3 months after Imagine Day, and roughly 1.5 years as an MSP, I finally got my MSP name card.

I wonder what I’m gonna do with them..
Vista’s File Copy - The Real Story
Posted by Jonathan Ng | Filed under Technical
This post by Jeff Atwood is definitely a MUST READ. Everyone’s been complaining about Vista’s file copy. “It’s so much slower!” they say. However, Vista’s file copy is based on an improved algorithm and performs better in most cases, as compared to XP.
The thing is, Vista’s file copy performance is only perceived to be slower. It does not reflect it’s actual performance. No point in me repeating the whole article, go read it yourself now!

Job/Career Fairs are Scams!
Posted by Jonathan Ng | Filed under Personal
Now that I’ve got your attention - let me clarify. Job/Career fairs aren’t exactly “scams”, since you’re not paying any money, assuming you’re a job-seeker. But the thing is, almost all the people there are HR staffs. They know nothing about the jobs! I went over to Accenture’s booth and asked 2 staffs there - none of them were able to tell me about the openings available. Worse still, they said “go online” to see this and that. What the hell?! The whole registration process with JobsDB there took way more than 1 hour, and you just tell me to “go online?!”
There aren’t many IT positions available as far as I’m concerned. After Accenture, I lost the mood to check-out the other employers there, fearing that they’d say “go online” or “just apply first lah”. Jeez, I could have done all of this online (if I wanted to) - and even got more information on the positions.
So since I was already at KLCC, ended up watching The Mist, a movie based on a Stephen King novel. Was super nice! Gotta grab some Stephen King novels to read. The story was so, so, so dark - so different. Highly recommended!
