Some Photos, Here and There
Posted by Jonathan Ng | Filed under Personal
I’ve been so lazy these days. It’s been such a long, long time since I’ve actually blogged. Here’s some photos I snapped some time ago..

My colleague rushing to push an application to production environment

My colleague, Shahril’s Sony PSP, which he uses as a mp3 player, and alarm clock

Soft toys on my colleague’s monitor, in a very suggestive position, but she claims “they’re not doing anything!”
Recently, there was a lotta diggs on a new Foobar, erm, theme kinda thing. Technically, it’s “FofR Configuration” for the PanelsUI display in Foobar.

Ah, last but not least, Eu Hua gave me one of his self-made, waterproof bookmarks. Pretty neat!

See? That’s all I had to blog about. Guess that’s what happens when you work. There are some other pictures too, but they suck pretty hard. So ’til next time.. go watch Transformers!!
Paging for Ms Jinny Wong..

My Programming Sucks
Posted by Jonathan Ng | Filed under Personal
Yeah, it’s kinda depressing. I’ve come to realize, my programming skills has gotten rusty. Really, really rusty.
Sure enough, most of my friends will say “dai lou, if you not dim, we die lor”. But really, I feel that I’m getting so bad at it. I took me ages to figure out how to convert mm/dd/yyyy format to dd/mm/yyyy in JavaScript. I realize I can’t work under stress, and can only program quickly with problems I faced before. When I face something new, I’m stuck.
Worse of all, I can’t find the passion that once fueled me to practice programming. It’s just not there. I wrote less than 100 lines of code today. Yeah, but some programming progress can’t be measured by lines of code (LOC), but I just feel that my progress is pretty depressing.
Is programming really that suitable for me after all? Heck, I’m developing interest in macroeconomics. Will I go into a non-technical industry upon graduating? Only time can tell..
What a Day

Hokay, here’s the first part of this post, “New Trainee, Pt 2″.
So there was a new trainee at our department. Yes, the “poking fun” continued. Andrew said, “Yalo, I notice when he explain things to her, very detailed wan..”. Sigh.. you know, I just can’t stand people who memorize programming. I can tell’ya, she’s the kind who’s debugging technique is to “tembak aje”. Sometimes, by a stroke of luck, she can figure out something. I don’t know how much of understand she has, but then again, since she’ve “figured” it out, so no point going on explaining.. nanti people say I long winded..
I don’t wanna go lunch with her anymore. Kinda paiseh. Y’know, when you first meet someone, sure got plenty to chat about mah.. but give it some time, nothing much left to talk about lor.. If I eat wit the guys, I can just eat in peace (meaning silently).. but with her, feel sorry if just keep quite only.. like boring the hell outta her.. ugh..
Besides, if I really had a crush on her, I’d have her phone number and MSN by now.. which I don’t..
Ah, here comes the second part of this post..
Today, the end-user of the systems that we develop was doing elaborate testing before signing it off. So it wasn’t surprising the user called up with a whole bunch of issues. Heck, some of it were even discussed earlier. There was some problem with the validation mechanisms, so Esther asked me to look into it. I’m guessing she was probably the one who wrote the JavaScript validation, as she was so keen to find out what the heck was wrong with it. She asked me to see see what’s wrong, but since it was ages since I did anything that required lots of JavaScript, I was kinda blur. Worse off, it was related with converting mm/dd/yyyy formats to dd/mm/yyyy. As there was 1 more thing I needed to attend to, it was definitely a stressful moment. So sometimes I kinda wish I could handle stress as good as them..
She had to call up the user to clarify what the heck they actually want. To tell you the truth, I was kinda irritated at that moment. She ask me to see what’s wrong, but then she was sitting at my computer, trying to fix the bug. I only got a few looks at the code, which she kept changing. So I got pretty damn frustrated when I couldn’t understand what the code was doing..
Long story short, I only left office at 8:30. The real surprise of the day was she actually said “thanks“.. I appreciated it as it wasn’t the kind you’d quickly say out of habit. It’s the kind that you can actually feel. It was totally uncalled for too, since it was the darned user who was to blame.. bloody hell, go home lah! It’s a friggin Friday for cryin’ out loud..
So to Esther, who probably won’t be reading this, “don’t mention it“, and may you find the love of your life soon.. tick tock tick tock.. =P
New Trainee

2 months into my industrial training program, a new trainee shows up. She’s from UTP, which stands for something something Petronas. When I first heard that she was from Petronas, I was like, holly shit.. don’t play play man..
Yeah, not surprisingly, she was on scholarship there. Heck, can you believe that they get their living cost allowance, even during industrial training? Geez, it’s a whole 500 bucks, on top of what HSBC pays us..
You see, when there’s 4 guy trainees, and then a new girl trainee, they (the other guy employees) just love to poke fun at one thing.. and they always come after lunch hour..
So today I went lunch with her.. dude, what’s the big deal eating with a girl? I know they know that.. but they just love to poke fun at me.. “Oh, no wonder so long lah…”
It so happens that the girl is kinda talkative, as compare to 2 of the other trainees. Whenever I go lunch with either of them, there’s totally nothing to talk about! Just walk out, makan, then back office, all in less than 30 minutes. Dude, I value the company ok?
Heh, anyway, I went up to the CEO’s office today. Damn, even the secretary’s office space and table was so friggin huge.. it was nearly half a basketball court.. however, the decor must have been left un-touch for years, it had a antique kinda feel to it, the classic kinda decor..
