Back @ Ipoh

If memory serves me correctly, I had a post with the exact same title. When? Some time ago when I was back at Ipoh lah of course!

I was back on Monday, and it’s now only I find the time to really blog. Everytime I get back to Ipoh, time passes by like a snail.. everyday seems so long.. but now, there never seems to be enough time!

Being a Microsoft Student Partner sure ain’t easy, thanks to my boss’ vision. But then again, it’s holidays, I’m in Ipoh, my “colleague”, Huey Chen is in Kelantan, so nothing much can be done. There’s just tons of planning to be done - it’s just worrisome.. all I can do now is design the posters, banners, certs, name tags and stuff like that..

Anyway, my mom got a laptop a few weeks after me, a company latop that is. Dumex provided a IBM laptop previously and the new one is a Dell Latitude. And boy does the Latitude look nice! Though my laptop had better specs, I wish mine had a shell like that..

Didn’t do much in Ipoh for the past few days other than eating, sleeping, shopping and watching TV. If there’s anytime left, it’ll be spent enjoying music on my trusty Philips SHP805 headphones that I brought back.. no loud music = no life! Haha! Though Rain sings in Korean, it’s exactly the kind of music I like.. It’s great! Bought another set of formalwear - Padini shirt and Seed slacks. Didn’t buy the Padini slacks from Jusco coz it was friggin packed! Padini and Seed shirts and slacks are 99% the same though..

It’s gonna be CNY in a few days, and before you know it, it’s gonna be 23rd - time to go back.. and face hell! There’s just so much preperations to be done for Vista week..

Vista Launch at Low Yat Plaza

Phew~ I’ve finally found the time to blog!! Exams ended on the 8th, but I still had like tons of work to get done with. Anyways, here’s some pictures from the Windows Vista Malaysia launch at Low Yat Plaza on the 3rd.

Me and Huey Chen went earlier coz we had to register our team for the hunt.. Sin Yee and Kok Chiann rushed over after their paper (till 4pm)!! Yeah, we went there mainly for the hunt and to see what kinda ideas we can steal :p Read the rest of this entry »

Vista, another Win ME?

It’s often said that Windows ME was a flop - something like a build up to XP. Is Vista a build up to future versions of Windows? Heck, one of the Longhorn “pillars” were dropped: WinFS (new file system). I’m not sure how much of Palladium (a security system, one of the 4 pillars of Longhorn) is implemented in Vista though. Check here for some info about Palladium and TCPA.

Let’s face the facts, Vista isn’t revolutionary. There aren’t any features that make it an absolute must have. Sure, Aero looks great, the new performance oriented features helps a little, but nothing really, really compelling. If you’re talking about .NET 3.0, they run on Windows XP too.

As for security, that’s one thing we’ll need to wait and see. Hopefully, Microsoft will fix UAC by Vista SP1, and improve Windows Defender. A recent article (I forgot where) mentioned that it failed miserably in detecting spyware. If Vista is secure enough to render anti-virus apps useless, then it’s truly a compelling reason to upgrade. Exam Break?

Had OS paper yesterday. Surprisingly, the internal (advanced) paper was easier than the external (Bachelor) paper. I was like “oh shit..” when they said “die” when asked ’bout the external paper.. Next paper is short story, which is next Tuesday.. no worries! Plenty of time! Haha.. so it’s like an exam break for me now..

My blog’s been pretty dead for quite a while. Sure enough, visits have dropped siginificantly too. Eu Hua gave me a tip: more pictures! Yeah, pictures are great… it ain’t boring like text. That got me thinking too: I’ve got a camera, why not make use of it? So I charged the batteries (yeah, they were dead) and started snapping away..

Long time havn’t tidy up my room. Just cleared my working area (the desk) and that’s it :p Oh, quick! Spot something ironic! Read the rest of this entry »
