Upgraded RAM
Posted by Jonathan Ng | Filed under Personal
Here’s the first in a series of overdue posts. I was all busy with assignments and hardly had the mood to blog. So, here’s the RAM upgrade I got about a week after I got my Dell..

I went Low Yat with Chu Hang and got a stick of 1GB DDR2-667 RAM. He asked me, since you plan to upgrade to 2 GB eventually, why not buy 2 sticks now?? Turned out he mistook the price of 1x 1GB RAM for RM 190, when in fact, it’s RM 390.. haha.. Read the rest of this entry »

Isn’t This Ironic
Posted by Jonathan Ng | Filed under Personal
It beats me how some people can get so worked up by some words.. it all started with a statement.. yeah, one statement that got misunderstood, and interpreted in ways I couldn’t have fathomed.. so A reported this statement to B.. unfortunately for me, B found that statement to be ultra offending.. B even felt that I was plotting some elaborate sabotage plan to undermine B’s efforts.. so B went out of control, literally, and walloped me in front of a crowd..
Honestly, I bore no grudge against A nor B.. I was the stupid one who made statements carelessly after all.. however, B’s actions could have seriously jeopardized me and A’s working relationship.. B’s actions could also have severely de-motivated me, and I could have created a huge racket to really, really undermine B’s efforts.. but hey, I didn’t.. I wasn’t such an idiot.. also thanks to someone who told me “it’s ok, B’s like that wan lahâ€
The irony here is that B bore a friggin huge grudge against me.. it’s like, I thought things are settled.. I’ve learned my lesson, so let’s put this behind us.. but NOooo… B even further misinterpreted, or say “twisted†my statements.. just because I didn’t follow B’s instructions precisely (hello, you yourself said everyone’s busy and stressed, so that includes me also k?), B thinks I’m rebellious, and that I did that on purpose.. C added in that I had a problem following instructions.. great!! All from one damned statement..
Given such a situation.. their “decision†was an obvious one, with B having such a grudge against me.. everything ends in seconds.. that few seconds where stress had worn me out.. it’s not like I’m a doctor and gave a patient wrong dosage.. but apparently, my statement amounts to that to B..
I couldn’t care less how “people†who’s reading this now thinks.. they think I’m a liar.. what can I do? all I care is I’ve learned my lesson through the past 2 weeks.. not only from my mistake.. but from the way B handled the situation.. MSP is an opportunity to learn.. and I have, albeit not a lot.. I bid the best to the other MSPs..
So here it is again: careful what you say and do.. some people can be so sensitive..
Debunking Li Ion Battery Myths
Posted by Jonathan Ng | Filed under Personal
Li Ion batteries are always mis-understood. Some people say you should fully discharge it, before re-charging it. Many say that for laptops that are used as desktop replacements, the battery should be removed. A quick search on the net can instantly debunk those myths:
- Unlike Ni-Cd batteries, lithium-ion batteries should be charged early and often. Full discharges should be avoided. They should never be “deep-cycled”.
- Li-ion battries can be charged partially. Charging a full battery is also safe and does not cause harm.
- The charger automatically cuts the charge current when a battery is full.
- However, you might want to remove the battery from a laptop when AC is connected. This has nothing to do with “charging the battery while using it”. Li-ion battery life is closely related to it’s temperature. When a laptop’s battery is removed, it is no longer affected by the laptop’s heat.
- A Li-ion battery’s lifespan degrades with time, regardless whether it is used or not.
So if you’ve got a laptop cooler, there’s no solid reason you should remove the battery. When storing a battery, it should ideally be at a 40% charge, and temperatures as low as possible.
