How 10 Seconds Can Make or Break Your Future
Posted by Jonathan Ng | Filed under Personal
Interviewer: “Can I see your results?”
I complied..
Interviewer, upon seeing my lovely SPM results: “Why the two 9s?”
Breaking..
So as you could see from the situation above, the way I answered can make or break my future.. here’s what happend to (stupid) me:
Me, paused for like 10 seconds, not expecting such a question… ended up smiling and admitting that I was lazy back then.. FUCK!
If I had the “universal remote control” like Adam Sandler in “Click”, I would have rewinded back and gave myself a big whack, make that two big whacks..
Making..
I should have promoted myself more pro-actively. What I could have said then was:
I’ve changed and improved a lot since my seconday school days. I’ve realized my mistakes, and changed for the better. My results (CGPA) and active participation of college activities is prove of that.
I admit that I’m not good at memorizing things. I always forget it in a few days. But, I’m good at areas that require understanding and anlytical skills, like programming. I’m good in programming because I can grasp key concepts and apply it in different situations.
I do better now because of my passion for programming. Technology is something I like, something I get excited about and not get bored of.
Trick/Stress Questions
This is another thing my brother highlighted. Interviewers may ask you about your weaknesses. If my interviewer did, I would probably have panicked. You can’t go telling them all your weaknesses right? Well, as a matter of fact, interviewers don’t expect you to reveal much. Unless the weaknesses your reveal are really trivial things. What they’re observing is how well you respond to the questions. See whether you can turn your “negative” weaknesses into something “positive”.
Well, just hope I can do better in my next interview..

It’s like ages since the last “links” kinda post.. so here goes:
You can download and install Windows Vista (no, not betas or RCs, it’s the RTM - the real deal) today! Well, not technically today as it was RTM’ed like a week ago. The DVD ISO can be downloaded at leading torrent sites, or here. There’s some ways to crack it too.. BUT, before you take the dive, do check out the Vista experience index to have an idea how your PC will fair.
Turns out that there’s an alternative to Microsft SharePoint now. Called O3Spaces, it’s main target is OpenOffice.org and StarOffice apps. Of course it supports .doc files. Details at linux watch.

Vista Application Incompatibility: Even Zune!
Posted by Jonathan Ng | Filed under Technical
This is simply hilarious, Windows Vista is not supported by Microsoft’s own iPod killer: Zune. Complete article at AppleInsider.
It also turns out that quite a number of other applications don’t work in Vista. Windows Live Messenger is reported to crash after a few hours. And worst news of all, Visual Studio 2002 and 2003 won’t work in Vista. VS.Net 2005 has some compatibility issues, but I guess it’s fine then. Heh, Visual Studio 6 still works..

What will you do?
Posted by Jonathan Ng | Filed under Personal
What do you do when you try to do something for you beloved, try to get out of the way for them.. but instead, they think you’re not doing anything.. they give you that face.. they think you’re the one at fault..
What do you do when your beloved always expects you to be the one who cheers her up every, single time? What do you do when she always expects you to take the initative to talk to her when in the first place? What do you do when she never knows that you’re actually unhappy about her? You can keep it in your heart and does as she wishes.. you can always do that.. but for how many times? For how long?
One day.. you can no longer keep it in your heart.. you can no longer tolerate.. one day, you’ll decide that you’ve had enough.. is today that day?
No.. it’s not.. What will you do if that person is the only person who you have left in the world to turn to.. can you still let go that easily? No.. you just wipe it off your mind.. and hope tommorrow will be a better day..

Microsoft Deep Dive Power Breakfast
Posted by Jonathan Ng | Filed under Personal
Skipped class (I wouldn’t have went anyway) today and went for Microsoft’s mini event for developers, called “Deep Dive something Power Breakfast”.. what a long name.. Anyway, there were 4 presentations there, mainly on:
- Introduction to Office 2007 development. We were shown how to create custom ribbon tabs and task panes. Did you know you could do a POS system on top of Word?
- Microsoft SharePoint services. Frankly, this was for enterprises with complicated workflows. Didn’t quite follow the workflow creation part.
- Lap around WPF. I’ve seen videos and even the power point the presenter, Ms Lim Poh Sze used. So it was kinda boring.
- “Go Go Gadgets”, how to develop a Windows gadget.
The only particularly interesting presentation was using Office 2007 as a development platform. It’s pretty cool being able to add your business logics on top of Word or Excel. One promising advantage of using the XML based file format in Office 2007 was that any application could assemble a Office file (.docx for example) on the fly. However, this process is pretty manual now. There’ll probably be plenty of tools that’ll automate this process, like designing reports in Access. Read the rest of this entry »
