Pan Fried Salmon

Salmon Fillet

Valentine’s day has always been an expensive affair. I know I probably sound like a cheapo but hey, I’m not even working yet. So unless you’re gonna give me some web-design/developement contracts, shut up. So why pay double for some freaking flowers that’ll only last for 2-3 days? It’s just insane..

So.. Our valentine’s day went by, pretty uneventful, nothing out of the ordinary. Why? Girls like surprises for crying out loud! And what they say ’bout them saying “no” but meaning “yes”, is true. Sigh..

I found this really simple recipe for some pan fried fish. My bro asked me to try recipe books at bookshops. I flipped though one and I realized: would you buy a recipe book that teaches you something as simple as pan-frying a fish?! Anyway, here’s what I remember:

Marinade the a fillet of fish (I used salmon) with salt and ground black pepper. Heat a pan, add a 3 tablespoons oil and 1 tablespoon butter. Dredge the salmon with flour and fry it till it’s golden brown. For the sauce: melt 3 tablespoons butter and fry some capers. Squeeze in 1 lemon and serve.

I couldn’t get any nice salmon (I won’t even know how to spot a fresh one), and you should go easy on the butter, there should only be a trace of it. The sause was a little to strong, and I couldn’t find any capers at Jusco. Perhaps mixing the sauce with some water would do. Served together with some broccoli beside it in a plate, and it simply looks sexy.

Nevertheless, flowers minus the wrappers you normally see in TV are much cheaper, all you need to do is arrange them in a vase. Combined with some simple, nice self-cooked food, will truly melt any girls heart. Besides, seing that wide smile on her face, and enjoying fish that you prepared yourself, will split your face with a smile too!
