Back with Plans

Throughout the Chinese New Year break (which was smack right in between my exams), I was constantly thinking bout Jnls.Net and other web development stuff, when I should be studying instead. As the semester break draws closer, I’m already finalizing plans “projects” to be done.
I’ve realized from pass experience that I would not be able to get much done in 2 weeks time. Thus, I’ve decided to stick with some simple, yet cool stuff.
First off, the “Explore Box”. I can’t seem to get Ultimate Tag Warrior to work properly, so I’m not sure about the “tags” part. I’m not exactly sure whether to turn it into a wordpress plugin, or simply leave it as it is. If I ever wanna make available for easy public use, I’d also need to switch to prototype.js, instead of my cutom scripts.
My major focus would probably be a nice search page. I feel that live search isn’t really useful, since post titles won’t tell you much most of the time. Instead, I’m thinking on the lines of a serach page that will list all search results, and inlcude a “click-to-expand” preview.
If there’s time left, I’d be looking into a AJAX based comments solution. One that allows browsing of comments in numbers that won’t dwarf the post itself, one that allows starring of comments (try going through hundreds of comments to find something useful), and of course AJAX posting of new comments. Simple enough, but my lack of familiarity of Wordpress’ internal architecture’s not gonna help.
Hence, I’d be looking into prototype.js, and explore every single function of it. Any unused function would definitely be dropped. The sheer size and weight of stuff like dojo is simply horrifying.
A new design (again) for Jnls.Net is already floating around in my head. But fret not, I doubt I’d be doing any new designs for quite some time. After all, Jnls.Net still isn’t finished: the archives and contact pages are still missing.
