21 Days

There’s just 21 days left to the exam season. For the amount of work left to be done, 3 weeks seems to be way to little. Sigh, I’m just so far behind. The problem is, there’s still 3 assignments left. The VB6 one is pretty much done, just some light documentation and burning it to a cd. Then there’s Computer Systems Engineering, with a dauting task of writting some “simple” in assembly. And just as bad, I’ve got a “business plan” due just a week before the exams! I just hate it when assignments are piled right be fore exams.
Anyways, I have no idea how my groupmates are doing with their parts of the VB6 assignment and I couldn’t care less. Some of them just can’t be bothered to put in any effort. Whether or not they’re done, I’ll combine whatever they pass me on Wed night and “hantam aje”. I’m not really as helpful as Jeff, he claims to have helped his groupmates pretty much. His assignment looks pretty darn cute I might say. LoL…
And Leah, I’m still waiting for my WLM 8 invite.

Sinima, a Cinima E-System
Posted by Jonathan Ng | Filed under Personal

Alright, top laughing at the name dammit, it’s the only thing that sounds like “Cinema” that doesn’t start with a “C”. Besides, Jeff said it was pretty “Malaysian”. Memang-lah!
So what’s Sinima?? It’s the project me and some friends did for our “Windows Programming” assignment with Visual Basic 6. Yes, six, not .Net. It’s a fictionous cinema with 3 screens as we wanted to limit the complexity. You obviously need better scheduling capabilities if you had a dozen screens right? I would certainly be interested in taking on such a project, but… TARC standards ain’t that high.
And now, on with some screenshots: Read the rest of this entry »

Recently, I was beseiged with tons of work. I’m under this “School of Arts and Science”, which has a habit of piling up tests and assignemnts toward the end of the semester. Everything seems to come together. It’s sort of like hell, maybe a little better.

Recently, I tried MSN Messenger 8, or as it’s officially named, “Windows Live Messenger“. Well, Microsoft’s smart enough to block passports that aren’t beta testers. So getting and installing a copy of messenger 8 isn’t a problem, but you won’t be able to log in anyway. But I believe that you would be curious and start googling for warez, cracks, patches and so on. I did just that, and got a proxy that allows you to connect to MSN’s servers as MSN 7.5. Browser-Tops are Lame

Ajaxian recently carried quite a number of articles covering Ajax based desktop/homepage/portals. I can’t help but slap my forehead with my palms. What wonderful usage of JavaScript/Ajax/DHTML they were. I’ve already got a pretty neat Windows desktop, but some folks think it’s a cool idea to have another one in my browser.
There were so many of them that Ajaxian posted one to sum them all up. So let me go through the two categories which these examples fall into: bright+useful and dumb+waste of time. Read the rest of this entry »

Custom Email Domains with Gmail
Posted by Jonathan Ng | Filed under Personal
It’s no big deal, but I finally figured out how to check me@jnls.net mails with Gmail, or as a matter of fact, any other web-based mail services. However, Gmail would be the choice for a particular reason that I’ll explain later.
I created a me@jnls.net address at my cPanel’s Mail Manager Menu. Next, I added my Gmail address to the “forwarders” list. Hence, any mail sent to me@jnls.net would be automatically fowarded to my Gmail account. The keyword here is “forwarded”, meaning there will still be a copy at my jnls.net servers. Aging only works with pop3 sessions. So I guess the only is to check on it with pop3 once in a while.
The reason Gmail was my choice, other than being one of the best mail services now, is that you can add an “account” so that mails are sent as “Jonathan Ng from me@jnls.net”. Yahoo only allows you to set a reply-to address, but Gmail allows modification to the whole from/sender thingy.
So I’m proud to announce, contact me at me@jnls.net!! Hm, I wonder if the spam would be so bad that I’ll need to turn on SpamAssassin…
